Welcome to India Insights.
India is a vast ancient civilization and complex modern nation-state. Even Indians struggle to comprehend India fully. My goal is to produce a body of work that will serve as a starting point for anyone who wishes to study India in all its complexity and make sense of it.
On the surface, the many regions of India appear to have their own local culture and traditions, but under the surface, there are common threads that bind the subcontinent together. These common threads help to tell the story of India more coherently.
The overarching theme of my writings is to tease out the common threads that hold the Indian subcontinent together, through its festivals, mythology, religious philosophy and practices, food, fashion, music, art, geography, history, and more.

Sādhana is a pseudonym I chose for myself when I set up my music website many years ago. It has since become the name by which my work is recognized on the Internet. My real name is Usha Jayaraman.
